Nose in a book?

We had a great evening yesterday as we hosted our small group in our home (although I think for most of them it may have felt strange to be in Alvira's house without her present). It feels very good to be developing some friendships with several couples and of course our kids enjoyed playing with other children in our home.

Grandma Katie sent a box of books three weeks ago and we got them on Friday - the kids were very excited to get some English short story books to read to go along with a few chapter books that we brought with us from Canada. Good thing we didn't pick up the mail until after school as they spent the rest of afternoon with their noses buried deep into the pages...

The next couple of weeks look to be quite busy ministry-wise but we are now looking forward to heading up to El Paso on the 12th of October for the staff meeting. While we had not planned nor expected to go up there at all during our time here, we see that it will be a good "break" for us, just to get away for a few days.
Sandy met Rosario, a widow across the street, who has invited us over to visit - it seems she is quite lonely so we hope to make some further contact with her in the next while. Another lady from a couple of blocks away stopped by yesterday to have us translate a card for her - apparently Alvira has done a great job of connecting in the neighbourhood and it is good to meet some of these people ourselves.

(All slide shows are supposed to end with a sunset, right?)

We hope you have a blessed weekend!
