Sandy's Turn...

I guess the encounter with the dog was too much for Sandy - she crashed big time with a huge bout of the flu on Thursday night. She had a really bad night and all day Friday she was in bed with some pretty major stomach pain and so on...we were starting to get quite concerned about her but last night she slept much better and today she was able to get up and around and seems to be coming out of this thing, whatever it was. Her energy is not nearly back yet and she still is experiencing stomach pain, but all in all it seems to be moving on, for which we are very thankful.
In the meantime, I headed out this morning to teach my first of two classes for the Bible Institute, only to return an hour later because of only one student showing up. The director and I decided to cancel the first class, which was to be "Ephesians." This gave me time to come home for a few hours and help out a little around the house so Sandy could keep resting (although she managed to teach school anyways - we are taking off some in a few weeks to go up to El Paso for a staff meeting so we are trying to work ahead a bit).
I went back after lunch and had five students for my "Basic Doctrine" class and it went really well. I was thankful for plenty of time for prep over the last month and also for a great group of students who are eager to learn. The students consist of one pastor, one recent convert (6 months ago), a teenager, a teacher and a middle-aged woman. Because the class happens only once a month I have prepared a bunch of homework for them - they think it is lots, more than other teachers have given them in the past, but I think it will work out well!
Please continue to pray for Sandy and her recuperation as well as for the two of us as we prepare a presentation for next Saturday for a "Couples Only" evening at our church. We are getting many opportunities to be involved in ministry here in Cuauhtemoc and the surrounding area.
We are also very excited to say that our kids have made a new friend - an 8 year old boy who lives on our block. He speaks a few words of English but our kids are having to work on their Spanish to be able to communicate with him. He is a very polite and well-behaved boy and we have also met his mom and dad who also are very kind and endearing people. Of course this is an answer to Andrew's prayer for a friend out here, it is a great opportunity for our kids to work on their Spanish, and it is an opportunity for us to shine the light of Christ into these people's lives, folks whom we think don't have a relationship with Jesus...yet!
We are looking forward to the worship service tomorrow in our church and then at 6 p.m. we are going to a youth event where we are having a "disco" supper together with them.
